This morning I had a check up with my plastic surgeon. He said that its rare that expanders do as well as mine have after radiation...this news shouldn't be surprising to me! God is still faithful and helping me and my body through this recovery time period. Hopefully my expanders will continue to do what they're supposed to do (which is to support the muscles and keep them stretched) for a few more months. My doctor said we'll probably do the surgery to take them out somewhere between 8 and 10 months post radiation, which will be anywhere from August to October. I'm definitely looking forward to that day! Praise the Lord for another good check up!
While sitting in the waiting room this morning, I picked up a recent copy of Newsweek magazine. Near the front was an article about a book written by a college student from Brown university who decided to enroll in Liberty University (my Alma mater) for a semester and do a sort of "undercover" study of the school and the students there. I remember hearing a little bit about this on KLOVE awhile back, but after reading the article, I was curious to read more, so I decided to pick up the book today at Borders. Since we're leaving on a trip this week, I thought it would be a great vacation read. The book is titled, The Unlikely Disciple: A Sinner's Semester at America's Holiest University and was written by a student named Kevin Roose.

Here's the Synopsis:
No drinking.
No smoking.
No cursing.
No dancing.
No R-rated movies.
Kevin Roose wasn't used to rules like these. As a sophomore at Brown University, he spent his days drinking fair-trade coffee, singing in an a cappella group, and fitting right in with Brown's free-spirited, ultra-liberal student body. But when Roose leaves his Ivy League confines to spend a semester at Liberty University, a conservative Baptist school in Lynchburg, Virginia, obedience is no longer optional.
Interestingly, this book includes an interview Kevin did with Jerry Falwell himself. This interview would turn out to be the last print interview Falwell gave before he died. Wow!
I can't wait to read it, I'll have to let you all know what I think after we return from our family vacation to Tennessee. We're heading to Pigeon Forge and then on to Nashville to spend a few days with friends of my family. My mom and dad are coming along for the ride, so it should be lots of fun, all of us packed into the 'ol mini van for this ROAD TRIP!
WooHoo! Let the summer begin! :)
